The Administrator of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Mallam Imamuddeen Talba, has said that the organisation was committed to improve the quality of human resources available to drive the Federal Government reform of the power sector.

Talba, over the weekend in Abuja gave this assurance at the completion of a-week long training on Introduction to Energy Regulation undertaken by the Commission in conjunction with the Energy Regulator Regional Association (ERRA) based in Hungary.

He said that quality manpower was required for the successful implementation of the Federal Government reform of the power sector that was started by the last administration.

Talba explained that the Commission currently has what is required to carry out regulatory functions but that the job of creating a level plain field for successful private sector investment in electricity industry is daunting and requires persistent updating of knowledge.

Impressed with the quality of training offered, Talba said that the Commission would seek further collaboration with the ERRA on training and retraining of the Commission’s staff as well as embark on exchange of regulatory experience with other utility regulators around the world.

The programme coordinator, Dr. Gabor Szorenyi, while congratulating the programme participants commended the Talba’s zeal in ensuring that the training was held in Nigeria and that his organisation was ready for further collaboration with NERC.

Over 30 participants at the training were drawn from the Ministry of Power, NERC, Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) and independent power producers. Resource persons for the training were drawn from Hungary and Rome.
