Inauguration of 32-man Panel to review Grid, Distribution, and Metering Codes PDF Print E-mail
Determined to entrench standards in the electricity supply industry, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has inaugurated a 32- man panel to review Grid, Distribution and Metering codes. The inauguration and oath taking ceremony took place at the Sheraton Hotel and Towers, Abuja, on Wednesday, July 21, 2010. The brief ceremony had in attendance various stakeholders in the electricity sector and other organizations such as the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) among others.
Giving his address at the occasion, the Administrator of NERC, Mallam Imamuddeen Talba, represented by the Head, Legal Licensing and Enforcement in the Commission, Mrs. Olufunke Dinneh noted that the primary function of the panels entails the reviewing, monitoring and implementing the codes which are part of the reforms in the electricity industry in Nigeria.  
Stressing the importance of the panel’s statutory function he said, “We are aware that one of the key indices in examining the development of any nation is its electricity consumption per capita, as every facet of any social, economic and industrial development is linked to the availability and safe utilization of electric power”.  
He said that the Commission views the oath taking with utmost seriousness and urged stakeholders to give their full support so as to realize a vibrant power sector in the nearest future.
Members of the Grid Code panel are:
Engr. Akinwummi Bada (Transmission Company of Nigeria) as Chairman, Engr. Paul Ilondu (Secretary)  also from TCN. Members are Engr. Engr. J. U Ndiagwalukwe (TCN, NCC), Engr. Joe Ajah (TCN (SO)), Engr. E. Ejeh (TCN (MO)), Engr. Emmanuel Ezekwere (NERC), Engr. Adeyinka Adewummi (Eko Electricity Distribution Commission).
Others are Engr. Mohammed Ibrahim (Jos EDC), Engr. Mujinyawa Mohammed (Port Harcourt EDC), Engr. Jacob Oyefisoye (Egbin Power Station), Engr. Lawal Zubair (Kainji Power Station) and Engr. Etibo Inyang (Ibom Power Station).
Distribution Code panel:
Engr. Abiodun Ajifowobaje as Chairman (Ikeja EDC), Engr. Ike Chidi as Secretary (Aba Power).The members are Engr.Jacob Okoro (Enugu EDC), Engr. Demola Soetan (Ibadan EDC), Engr. Dogo (Yola Disco), Engr. Kehinde Zaccheaus (TCN), Engr. Akin Alade (TCN (NCC)).
Others are Engr. Azike Okechukwu (Mabon Energy Ltd, Hydro), Engr.Okolo Godwin (Delta Power Station), Engr. Tasiu Wudil (NERC) Engr. Shamm Kolo (CPC), Engr. Solomon Nyagba ( NACCIMA).
Metering Code panel:
Engr. Emmanuel Ezekwere as Chairman (NERC), Engr. U. Achinanya as Secretary. The members are Engr. M. Dada (TCN), Engr. J. Onifade (successor Gencos), Engr. Prof. D. Aderibegbe (IPPs) and Engr. M. Atoyebi (successor Discos), Engr. C. Okonkwo (successor Discos), Engr. Samuel Dangana ( meter manufacturers) and Engr. C. Sowunmi ( meter instrument laboratories).
The highlight of the event was the oath taking proper followed by acceptance speeches by chairmen of the respective panels. Their job starts immediately.
